Aquatic Therapy is for pediatric and adult clients with musculoskeletal and sensory challenges. Aquatic Therapy use the properties of water to assist the patient in attaining function sooner in cases where traditional treatment approaches are not tolerated. The water provides a perfect environment for rehabilitation of the entire body as it reduces or eliminates the effect of gravity, allowing the patient to fully use their muscular abilities to work toward improved functioning.
Passionate about aquatic rehabilitation, Dr. Gachette received her certification in Aquatic Therapy in April of 2016. Dr. Gachette has been employed at a school for clients with developmental disabilities since 2009 and worked on a Neuro-Rehabilitation unit and a Medical Rehab Unit for 6 years. Dr. Gachette received her Bachelor in Health and Wellness (1998), a Bachelor in Physical Therapy (2002), and Doctor of Physical Therapy (2006). Dr. Gachette has spent her career honing her skills in physical therapy and working towards fulfilling her goal of providing the service of aquatic therapy to her community.
Physical Therapy treatments are comprised of a battery of specialized techniques. Steered by Evidence-Based practice, water is used to facilitate movement to achieve optimal function. Aquatic therapy integrates therapeutic exercises with the hydrodynamic principles of water and is directed by a licensed physical therapist (PT) or physical therapist assistance (PTA).
Heat
The warm water relaxes muscles and allows for improved circulation and range of motion.
Buoyancy
Provides assistance and support to the body, decreases gravitational forces placed on the muscles and joints, and allows an individual to move more easily.
Hydrostatic Pressure
The water that surrounds the body, creates a pressure on the body that helps circulate blood and fluid from the arms and legs, reducing swelling.
Resistance
Water allows for improvement in muscle strength in all direction.
